Sometimes when things aren’t going quite your way, it can help to remind yourself of some good stuff. It may help to boost your mood. I’ve written about this a few times, but in the current times we’re in, sometimes a reminder is needed. I know for me it is when I’m having a rough day. I’m in the middle of a two-week issue with my web hosting company. It’s eaten up a lot of time. Sometimes, my cat wakes up in a bad mood – like today. So, playing with him is not an option to change my mindset unless I want to lose a finger! I personally don’t think he sleeps enough, but that’s another story for another post!
Here’s a quick exercise to get your mind thinking more optimistically.
Write down or tell someone close to you about a time in the past year when you experienced a feeling of success or something that really energized you. It could be significant, or something small, like your cat actually being in a good mood and wanting to cuddle!
Next, think about what things made this a positive experience for you.
I think of a tough situation I was in and how I overcame it. Or how I was able to turn it into something positive. That acts as a reminder that things may not be where I want them to be, but I’ve been there before, or worse, and gotten out of it for the better.
I hope one of these ideas works for you to help turn your thoughts around on a difficult day if you need it. If neither of these work, sometimes watching a movie or show that makes you happy may be the fix. In my ongoing battle with my web hosting company, I will do what I like to do when I need to smile. Watch The Princess Bride!
