When I feel this way, I know it’s time to reevaluate my priorities.  If you’re in the same boat, this quiz can help you measure your degree of balance between the demands of work or school, family and friends, and your time.

What your total score means:

  • If your total score is less than 20: You have learned to balance family, work and your needs.
  • A total score of 21–30: You have managed a good balance with some need for improvement.
  • If your total score is 31–40: You have a fair balance with areas for improvement.
  • A total score of 41–50: You are having trouble managing your family, work and personal needs.

Some tips to get more balance in your life

  1. Evaluate what your priorities are and focus on your “big picture.”
  2. Plan and prioritize when you have conflicting demands.
  3. Pay attention to the warning signs when the demands of work take up personal time, or when personal responsibilities distract you at work or school.
  4. Relaxation -including private time away from partners and family members, if applicable —is essential to rejuvenate.
  5. Approach commitments with goals and a positive attitude.
  6. Work towards open communication with work and personal relationships including effectively letting them know when things are getting too much to handle.
  7. Shift gears when it’s time to refocus your priorities.
