DIY natural facial masks for any skin type

I’m back from a trip to New York, and usually when I travel my skin looks terrible when I come home. This time was no exception. So it’s “take charge time” again, or would that be considered “recharge time”? Is recharge time a thing? Sorry, I’m writing this with only three hours sleep, so I’m just going to get to the point before I go down some path that loses anyone trying to read it.

It’s time to double up on my facial masks. Instead of once a week, I’m going to do two a week until my skin improves. I’m going to do a DIY mask for the acne and discoloration that popped up halfway through my trip and decided to stick around. And one for the dry, dehydrated skin I’m also battling since I came back.

If you want to make a natural facial mask, here are some different options depending on your skin type.

Ingredients

For acne or discoloration

Lemon and honey

Make a lemon and honey mask. Cut a lemon in half, squeeze the juice, and add a teaspoon of honey.

For oily skin

Blend 1 fully ripe banana, 1 tablespoon of honey and an orange or lemon.

For dry skin, also for anti-aging 

Blend 1/2 ripe avocado, 2 tablespoons of honey and 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil

For combination skin

Blend 1/2 ripe banana, 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon of oatmeal

For normal skin

Apple and Honey

Apple and honey

Blend 1 apple and 2 tablespoons honey

For razor burn

Mix 1/2 a cucumber, peeled and chopped, and 1 tablespoon full-fat Greek yogurt

Directions

No matter which one you use, apply it to your face for 20 minutes and rinse it off with cold water.

I have never tried to tackle two different problems at the same time with my skin, so I hope this works! I’m going to do the one for acne on Wednesdays and one on Saturdays for my dry skin. At least I know separately they have worked for me! As I have mentioned in my other DIY posts, what works for me and others may not work for you. But it usually doesn’t hurt to try!

  1. Ground coffee and olive oil. Olive oil hydrates and makes the ground coffee less aggressive for the skin.
    Ground coffee exfoliates and make you look less pale.

    Apply it by massaging your face, leave it few minutes and rince with lukewarm water to remove the oil more easily :).

    It also works for the whole body, but I don’t mix coffee with olive oil on the body because I use a lot of extra water to clean the oil. So I mix coffee with water.
