Say “see ya” to acne by eating and doing these natural things

corner place
Thanks to my bestie for letting me use this pic where I’m hiding 🙂

No photos of me right now please! I’ve had a massive acne attack in the last couple of weeks. Acne happens when your skin’s sebaceous glands are inflamed and infected. Your hormones, particularly androgens, are one of the causes.

Natural ways to fight acne that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils

My number one tip

Find out if you are eating, wearing or using anything that is causing your acne. Before this breakout, my last one was over a year and a half ago. I found out I was dairy intolerant, and that was causing the cysts. Once I stopped drinking milk, eating yogurt, and butter, my cysts cleared up.

Drink lots of water with lemon

Add lemon to your water because it helps to detox your body and clear your skin.

Natural products to put on your face

Daily face wash: Strawberries

So I’m going in for this 100% because I have nothing to lose right now. I hadn’t switched to a natural cleanser yet, but it’s now or never. Strawberries contain salicylic acid which helps fight acne. I found out that Marilyn Monroe used it every day, and well she looked fabulous! I’ve heard you may break out more at first as it removes more dirt than your cleanser.

To make it: Take five large strawberries and a cup of water, and blend until smooth. You can also add one tablespoon of almond oil (optional). Apply it to your face and neck using your fingers or a soft cloth.  Massage it in for one minute before rinsing. Keep the remaining cleanser in the fridge until you finish it.

Daily toner: Apple cider vinegar

apple cider vinegar

After you wash and dry your skin, use organic apple cider vinegar.  It’s a natural toner; with frequent use, it can help clear acne and fade the dark spots caused by acne scars. Dab a little of it on a cotton ball and apply it to your face or affected area. Use it every time you wash your face.

Daily moisturizer: Coconut oil

I previously wrote a post on the benefits of coconut oil. You know I’m a serious fan if I dedicated a whole post to it! It helped me get rid of my acne scars and also helped the little pimples that pop up now and then. I put it on morning and night.

Once a week: Lemon and honey mask

A lemon and honey mask will help remove acne and discoloration. To make one, cut a lemon in half, squeeze the juice, and add a teaspoon of honey. Apply it to your face for 20 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Follow it up with your apple cider vinegar toner and coconut oil moisturizer.

You want to eat foods that help keep your androgen hormones lower.

Eat these

brazil nuts

Eat more fresh fruit, fish, raw vegetables and whole grains. Include foods with a lot of selenium such as Brazil and cashew nuts, sunflower seeds and walnuts. Four Brazil nuts will give almost your recommended daily amount. Remember that strawberries contain salicylic acid which helps fight acne.

Just say no

Cut out saturated and hydrogenated fat. So, no processed foods and junk food. You also want to stop eating foods high in sugar.

Our skin is all different, what works for me and others, might not work for you, but if you’re experiencing acne, it doesn’t hurt to see if they help. It will take some time to notice a difference, but if you create a routine and stick with it, you should see some. It took me a few weeks to see the difference with coconut oil, but I did.

These are some of my natural tips to fight acne. Do you have any to share?

  1. Absolutely loved this post! Acne is such a horrible thing. I feel like fighting it is half the battle as once it’s over you have to start fighting the left over scars. Such amazing tips! Will definitely use them!

  2. It’s amazing how changing your diet also affects your acne
Avoiding saturated and hydrogenated fat was the best I could do
Of course I missed eating some junk food haha

    1. I just started using it the past few months too and I’m so surprised at how great it is! You’re the only other person I have heard using it. Great to know it works for you too! Enjoy your week 🙂

  3. I strongly believe and agree in natural remedies. I haven’t had acne for a few years but the occasional pimple here and there. I am interested in ideas for natural ways to moisturizer my face without use harsh chemicals.

    1. I hadn’t in awhile, this took me by surprise! Cleanser was the only thing left that wasn’t all natural, just mostly. So I thought what a great opportunity to change that and get my skin on a fully natural program. I use coconut oil as my moisturizer, morning and night. I know some people who use olive oil. Neither clog the pores. I’ve been doing it for a year now and love it.

      1. Awesome! I’m actually now using lemon to wash my face wish is pretty good. But I need a natural moisturizing cream. Any other suggestions?

  4. This post is INCREDIBLE! I have struggled with breakouts most of my life, I can’t wait to try these natural remedies! I have never heard of the strawberry one, but it definitely makes sense! You always have the best suggestions- thank you tons for sharing with us!

    1. Thanks so much Mack! I really appreciate it. I hadn’t heard of the strawberry one either until I started doing research. My breakout to my face cleanser came out of the blue. I’ve been so good since cutting out dairy and using coconut oil on my face. I figured that I might as well try a natural cleanser since everything else I use is natural on my face now, except for the cleanser. I will let you know if it works, I just started the strawberry one. The others I love! Let me know how they work for you too!

  5. Great post! I am trying to get more natural products into my routine. I hadn’t heard about strawberries! I’m curious to know how it goes

  6. Wow great ideas! I haven’t used natural products on my face yet..well not fully natural. I buy them at my spa 🌻🌻

    1. Thanks so much! I appreciate it. I started that way too and then slowly started including natural products last year. If the strawberry works, I will be fully natural for my face 🙂

  7. I’ve been using the first aid beauty cleanser and it’s been working for me. You are right not everyone’s skin will react the same. But great tips! Never heard of a strawberry mask! That would smell so yummy too!

    1. I hadn’t either. My cleanser started causing me major breakouts so I started researching natural ways to make a face cleanser for acne and it kept popping up with fairly positive reviews. I thought what do I have to lose! I just started and it does smell yummy! Weird to put on your face at first though 🙂 And thank you!

  8. Great tips Sam! I know how hard it is, when acne comes. I also get sometimes. Some remedies works and some doesn’t. I have a combination skin. Lemon and Honey mask & Besan (Gram flour) and Curd (Yogurt) mask works for me. It actually takes a few weeks to get rid of them completely.

    1. Thanks so much Malini! I will try the mask with your suggestions too. This breakout took me by surprise! Thanks so much for your suggestion. I appreciate the help 🙂 Have a great day!
