No photos of me right now please! I’ve had a massive acne attack in the last couple of weeks. Acne happens when your skin’s sebaceous glands are inflamed and infected. Your hormones, particularly androgens, are one of the causes.
Natural ways to fight acne that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils
My number one tip
Find out if you are eating, wearing or using anything that is causing your acne. Before this breakout, my last one was over a year and a half ago. I found out I was dairy intolerant, and that was causing the cysts. Once I stopped drinking milk, eating yogurt, and butter, my cysts cleared up.
Drink lots of water with lemon
Add lemon to your water because it helps to detox your body and clear your skin.
Natural products to put on your face
Daily face wash: Strawberries
So I’m going in for this 100% because I have nothing to lose right now. I hadn’t switched to a natural cleanser yet, but it’s now or never. Strawberries contain salicylic acid which helps fight acne. I found out that Marilyn Monroe used it every day, and well she looked fabulous! I’ve heard you may break out more at first as it removes more dirt than your cleanser.
To make it: Take five large strawberries and a cup of water, and blend until smooth. You can also add one tablespoon of almond oil (optional). Apply it to your face and neck using your fingers or a soft cloth. Massage it in for one minute before rinsing. Keep the remaining cleanser in the fridge until you finish it.
Daily toner: Apple cider vinegar
After you wash and dry your skin, use organic apple cider vinegar. It’s a natural toner; with frequent use, it can help clear acne and fade the dark spots caused by acne scars. Dab a little of it on a cotton ball and apply it to your face or affected area. Use it every time you wash your face.
Daily moisturizer: Coconut oil
I previously wrote a post on the benefits of coconut oil. You know I’m a serious fan if I dedicated a whole post to it! It helped me get rid of my acne scars and also helped the little pimples that pop up now and then. I put it on morning and night.
Once a week: Lemon and honey mask
A lemon and honey mask will help remove acne and discoloration. To make one, cut a lemon in half, squeeze the juice, and add a teaspoon of honey. Apply it to your face for 20 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Follow it up with your apple cider vinegar toner and coconut oil moisturizer.
You want to eat foods that help keep your androgen hormones lower.
Eat more fresh fruit, fish, raw vegetables and whole grains. Include foods with a lot of selenium such as Brazil and cashew nuts, sunflower seeds and walnuts. Four Brazil nuts will give almost your recommended daily amount. Remember that strawberries contain salicylic acid which helps fight acne.
Just say no
Cut out saturated and hydrogenated fat. So, no processed foods and junk food. You also want to stop eating foods high in sugar.

Our skin is all different, what works for me and others, might not work for you, but if you’re experiencing acne, it doesn’t hurt to see if they help. It will take some time to notice a difference, but if you create a routine and stick with it, you should see some. It took me a few weeks to see the difference with coconut oil, but I did.
