Random act of kindness movement Friday #1: Reaching out

Whoo hoo, it’s Friday! Does that mean it’s the last day of work for me this week? Not really, but I do far less work on the weekend, and I still get extra happy on Friday. It brings good vibes. I think it’s why I chose Friday as my random acts of kindness movement day. It’s my first Friday doing #randomactsofkindness. Last week I posted that I was starting it. I’m hoping that some of you will join me, even if you don’t post or talk about it. I’m encouraged that we can make this world slightly nicer one day at a time. Yes, I’m an eternal optimist!

Today I reached out to someone I lost touch with a few years ago to tell her I missed her. I hope it will put a smile on her face even if she doesn’t respond. I have to thank social media for making it easier to reconnect with people, no matter where in the world they moved.

It isn’t great when you lose touch with people because it’s so easy to text “Hi, how’s it going?” once in a while. But it does happen; people move away, lifestyles change, or with some people it happens organically. It happened to me and my great friend G. She reminded me of it the other day. We had both moved far away and a few years went by. One day out of the blue I looked her up and left her a message to see if she remembered me. G said she was so happy that she burst into tears when she heard my voice. We’ll never let that amount of time go by again.

I’ll always remember the happiness G said she felt when she heard my voice. Now I know that it’s never too late to rekindle some friendships. It sparked me to contact my old friend this morning. As I mentioned, if nothing else happens, I hope it puts a smile on her face that someone wanted to reach out after time passed.

NYC with Kim
My friend Kim came to visit me in New York last year while I was there for a while and it’s hard to express how much that meant.

I hope you have a beautiful day! And if you decide to do a random act of kindness of your own, whatever you choose to do, I hope it puts a smile on their face.

  1. “Random act of kindness moment Friday #1” is such a happy post coz..
    – The Friday or weekend bliss.. Totally relatable
    – A kind act is so touching, for the one earning it and the one giving it.

    Happy Weekend 😄

  2. I want to participate! I did something this morning: I counsel nursing home residents, I found 3 new pictures at a thrift shop and went room to room till all were claimed. I gave the list for the maintenance guy who will hang them up. One of the residents came up to me to ask for one, my last one. She walked with me to the administrator’s office. He had been trying to talk to her in Spanish because she pretended that she didn’t understand English. He found out she really does speak English. She waved and said, “See you later!”. LOL.
