I have always wondered for the longest time why St. Valentine’s Day is not considered a Public Holiday in most countries and to name a few US, Canada, Australia, and the UK. Here is to hoping that it will become a Paid Holiday especially for US and Canada. If you live in North America, you may know that this is one of the most celebrated commercial holidays, and it’s mainly driven nowadays by social media expectations. History Channel reports: “There are approximately 150 million Valentine’s Day cards exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second most popular card-sending holiday after Christmas.” (history.com)
I was never a big fan of this holiday, but in my opinion, it is most certainly a holiday to be celebrated if you are willing to be creative and unique. Again this adds more pressure to the preparation but if you do love to put the time and effort, here are seven ideas that will make you impress your loved ones (I think you already guessed that I am not going to suggest a card)
Quote pillow: “You Are My One in Seven Billion” pillow made of European linen available in three earth colors at brika.com.
What better way than to tell your loved one how much you mean to them? It is certainly a beautiful & unique gift for her or him.
Chocolate confections for chocolate indulgers: “See’s Tuxedo Heart” a variety of chocolate confections for him and “Satin Truffle Heart” chocolate for her at See’s Candies – American-Made Delicious since 1921 (online store at sees.com).
Both come in a heart-shaped box in a lovely presentation, and each box includes exquisite chocolate truffles.
Handmade wood candles: Handmade and customized with wood burned initials to give a beautiful rustic look to your home.
These can be found at one of my favorite online stores etsy.com of very reasonable price and ships worldwide.
Instagram friendly frames: I think this one can be used for any occasion. Print that one special Instagram photo that everyone is raving about of you and your loved one and frame it in a sophisticated Gallery Frame that comes in four different frame finish.
Bath bombs for him and her: What a romantic & therapeutic way to celebrate together while soaked in fragrances of rose petal infusions, organic cocoa butter, calming peppermint and much more as to put you and your loved one in the right mood for this special day.
Lush Handmade Cosmetics has a long variety of bath bombs for you to choose. If you are thinking creative, then I suggest you check out acultivatednest.com on how to make your own Heart-Shaped Bath Bombs. #diy
Of course, flowers: I am a big sucker for flowers on any occasion, as I assume some women are. If you are looking to impress your lady with the perfect flower bouquet, visit fromyouflowers.com. There are many bouquet varieties to choose from and at a very reasonable price. If you are looking to impress your man, decorate your home with #diy floral hearts. I adore the one prepared by designimprovised.com; so easy to make and at very low cost. End the night with a home-cooked romantic dinner for that special one.
Last minute ideas: Men: If you have waited until the last day to pick out a gift, stop by any Victoria Secret for lingerie or body lotion (vanilla is my favorite) depending on how long you have been in the relationship.
Women: If you are doing last minute shopping for your man, get a pack of Calvin Klein underwear (I love the low rise nylon trunk style) or a body spray (I recommend Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio Body Spray)
What are your plans for this Valentine’s Day? Any gift suggestions?
