What to wear for the holidays? Velvet of course!

Photo c/o

I recently stumbled across an old picture of me when I was only 12 years old which is about 20 years ago (yes you can do the math!). What was interesting about the picture (besides me looking adorable), was that I was wearing this dark maroon velvet shirt and it got me wondering why velvet ever went out of style? And guess what, velvet has been officially back since Fall 2016, marking this as the return of Renaissance era where velvet, bell sleeves, and corsets are brought back in style (Read more at – Fall 2016 Fashion Trends).

As I looked at this old picture of me, I thought of how much I loved the feeling of velvet and thought how fabulous would velvet look at a holiday party. I know many of you are struggling to find that perfect outfit for that office or family holiday party. If you are just excited as I am for velvet being back in style, and if you don’t have time to put together an entire outfit, I would suggest a navy blue or burgundy pencil dress for a cocktail party.

It’s also a perfect dress if you are going to meet that special someone’s parents for the first time where you want to look glamorous and luxurious but not over the top. The velvet dress will give you just that runway look.  While velvet dresses can be expensive, I ran into The site has a variety of extremely reasonable prices for all latest trends, and I couldn’t help but notice a navy choker neck velvet pencil dress (pictured above).

I think you all remember how 2016 was all about accessorizing all fashion wear with a simple neck choker, so what better way than having it all in one dress? The dress can be accessorized with either pointy black of silver stiletto heel pump (stiletto heels can never go out of style in my opinion) similar to the Aquazzura pump style or the line of beautiful sandals by Gianvito Rossi. Although both brands are extremely fashionable but expensive (check out for the style) to say the least, I ran across similar shoe styles of realistic prices at

Dress up the outfit with a black velvet metal chain shoulder bag from H&M. It’s completely affordable and can be used daily over jeans and combat-look winter boots; totally worth the price.

Pull your hair back in a simple low bun while adding one simple side braid to perk-up your style, add some drop pearls (nothing fancy) and you are on your way off to celebration.

What do you think of this outfit? Any suggestions?

  1. I LOOOOOVEEE velvet! I am stoked that it is back in style. I need to go to shein right now. I haven’t ordered anything from them yet, but their clothing options are excellent, and I’ve heard good things. Can’t wait to get something velvet to say I’m up with the trends 😉

    • Oh yes they are back in ! Super excited myself. The website has really amazing prices!! You will be surprised and I’ve actually purchase from that website before and the quality of the product is worth it based on the amount you are paying for ! I suggest dark navy blue, black or dark maroon for any velvet outfit. Also the track suits are back in style so you can get the velour ones (similar to velvet material) 😬 ! Hope this helps and thanks so much for your support ❤️️
